The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires all local planning authorities to prepare a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). This sets out how the community will be involved during the production of the Local Development Framework and consultation on planning applications.
Statement of Community Involvement South Hams District and West Devon Borough Councils published a review of the Statement of Community Involvement for consultation. This consultation period has now ended. The draft Statement of Community Involvement, prepared jointly by both Councils, sets out how we propose to involve the community in preparing plans for future development and processing planning applications.

Consultation Responses
The following responses were received during the recent period of consultation
The Council published a draft Statement of Community Involvement for public comment over a six week period in October 2004. The SCI was revised in the light of comments received and was available for comment during a further 6 week formal consultation period (24 June-5 August 2005) when it was submitted to the Secretary of State. An Examination was conducted through written representations in January 2006, and a binding Inspector’s Report was received by the Council on the SCI in May 2006. The SCI was amended in accordance with this binding report.
The Statement of Community Involvement was adopted by the Council on 15 June 2006.

The SCI is available on this website by using the links above. This document is also available for public inspection at the Council offices, Follaton House, Totnes on Monday–Thursday 08:30–17:00 and Friday 08:30–16:30 and at the local libraries within the district and at Plympton and Plymstock libraries within Plymouth.
