The Affordable Housing Development Plan Document (DPD) will be an important document in the South Hams Local Development Framework (LDF). It sets out the Council's approach for delivering affordable housing in relation to new development. The Council published a Core Strategy and Policies, Issues and Preferred Options report – “The Strategy” – for comment in October 2004 and the Preferred Options stage was published in July 2007. Both these documents were available for comment over a six week period. A Submission stage version of the document was published for a final 6 week consultation from 25 January to 7 March 2008. This document has been submitted to the Secretary of State for an independent Examination expected in June 2008.

Sustainability Appraisal

The Affordable Housing DPD has been subject to a Sustainability Appraisal (SA), incorporating Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), at several stages during its preparation. A Sustainability Appraisal Report accompanies the Affordable Housing: Submission DPD which sets out the findings of the SA.

How can I view a copy of the Affordable Housing Submission Stage DPD?

The Affordable Housing DPD is available on this website by using the links above. This document is also available for public inspection at the Council offices, Follaton House, Totnes on Monday–Thursday 09:00–17:00 and Friday 09:00–16:30 and at the local libraries within the district.

The Affordable Housing DPD is also available to purchase from the Forward Planning Team, at £5 (incl. P&P) on Tel: 01803 861257.

What happens next?

The responses received during the Submission Stage consultation will be summarised and these representations will help inform the independent Examination of the Affordable Housing DPD.
