These web pages provide information on the local spatial planning that the Council is required to undertake to ensure the delivery of sustainable development across the South Hams. This includes the South Hams Local Development Framework (LDF) and saved policies from the South Hams Local Plan. Together these provide guidance on what kind of development and use of land will be permitted in the South Hams.

Site Allocation DPDs Additional Consultation (13 January to 10 February 2010) Further consultation is underway to gather local comment on a number of settlements affected by new or revised proposals to help inform the five site allocation DPDs anticipated to be published in March 2010. The settlements affected are Aveton Gifford, Avonwick, Diptford, Ermington, Harbertonford, Kingsbridge, Marldon, Modbury, Salcombe, Stoke Fleming, Ugborough and West Alvington. Council report on the Site Allocation DPDs A report relating to the Publication Stage of the five Site Allocation DPDs formed part of the agenda for the Council meeting on 17th December 2009. This included proposals for housing (especially affordable housing), employment land and associated community facilities in Dartmouth, Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Totnes and the Rural Areas. The Council has made good progress with its LDF portfolio and several documents are already adopted, including the:

• Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document
• Open Space, Sport and Recreation Supplementary Planning Document
• Planning Obligations Supplementary Planning Document
• Statement of Community Involvement.

Other LDF documents currently in the course of preparation include the:

The LDF project plan (known as the Local Development Scheme) shows the timetable for the preparation of these documents and others whose preparation has yet to commence. It also shows which policies are saved from the Local Plan adopted in 1996. As new LDF documents are adopted they will replace the relevant sections of the adopted Local Plan.

The LDF and saved Local Plan policies are used to guide day to day development management and control decisions about planning applications and support good and consistent decisions.
