The Council has the discretionary power to reduce or remit rate liabilities on the grounds of hardship and each application is considered on its merit.
For it to be successful you will need to demonstrate that:
- You will suffer financial hardship if the relief is not granted
- Your business brings in significant, direct benefit to local people
If the Council does use it's discretionary powers to award any relief the cost is borne by the local Council and therefore by the Council Tax payers and so the interest of the community have to be taken into account in all such decisions.
