South Hams District Council is recognised as a council with good links to industry sector groups. Despite the district’s broad economic base there are particularly significant business sectors. Their importance to the local economy is due to either the size of the sector, it's traditional role, the numbers it employs or it's potential for growth. These are:
- Agriculture / Land Based
- Fishing
- Marine Industry
- Food & Drink Processing
- Tourism & Leisure
|
- Manufacturing
- Retail
- ICT
- Creative Industries
- Knowledge Based Industries
|
Many of these sectors have active sector forums with which the Economy & Europe office has close contacts. Contact details for the forums, local Chambers of Trade and other business organisations can be found in the our Business Information Guide .

South Hams ICT Forum
This forum evolved in 2002 from the pre-existing Telework Forum. Recognising the importance of broadband technology to the businesses and communities of the district the new ICT forum concentrated on raising awareness of broadband and encouraging registrations of interest to speed BT's exchange upgrade programme. The last local exchange was upgraded to broadband capability in 2005 and the forum's sphere of interest, through the regular broadband E-bulletin, widened.
If you would like to receive the E-bulletin please contact the Economy & Europe Office at economy.europe@southhams.gov.uk .
