9.              9.                   Notice of Motion – to consider the following motions which have been submitted in accordance with Council Procedure Rule 10.1:

(a)                By Cllrs Ward and Brazil

That South Hams District Council supports the long-term future of its local communities as envisaged in the Local Communities Sustainability Bill, namely;

  a.. The promotion of local jobs and businesses

  b.. The promotion of local services and facilities

  c.. The protection of the environment

  d.. The reduction of social exclusion

  e.. The involvement of local people

That this Council accordingly resolves:

To support this Bill introduced into Parliament by a cross party group of MP's which would require the Government to support the implementation of it's measures, and resolves to ask it's local MP to sign early day motion N.169 in support of that Bill.”

(b)              By Cllrs Fairman and Squire

In view of recent statements by the Prime Minister regarding emissions causing climate change, and the fact that now the majority of gas used in the country is imported is it not now time for the Secretary of State to revisit his decision to allow a gas fired power station to be built in the South Hams.

We therefore ask that the Council support writing to the Secretary of State to request that this decision be re-considered with the suggestion that the project cost of £600m be better spent on developing power generation from renewable sources.”

That Council be RECOMMENDED that on the call-in ground of ‘Due consultation and taking of officers professional advice’ the Executive decision on the ‘Review of Street Cleaning’ (E.28/04) be referred to full Council.
